This year, the Midland YMCA kicked off the Annual Campaign with a Super Bowl Squares Fundraiser. At the Kickoff Campaign meeting, Midland YMCA CEO, George Fierro, literally “kicked off” the campaign by scoring a field goal in the parking lot. Members could purchase squares on any of four different themed boards: Entertainment, Golf, Hunting, Health & Wellness and prize packages were awarded for each quarter of the game on each board. Over 70% of the participants of the Annual Campaign were new donors who recognize the Y’s commitment to building healthy minds, bodies, and spirits for all. This project not only allowed Midland YMCA to cultivate relationships with the local businesses in the community, but also gave all members the opportunity to see firsthand the Y’s mission and commitment to the community. Through philanthropy from its members and other donors the Midland YMCA is able to provide scholarships and financial assistance to families that want to be members of the Y.
Also in the spirit of giving, the YMCA of Austin and the YMCA of Greater Williamson County also saw great success in communicating their cause to the community. Both associations finished in the top 5 of the Amplify Austin leader board out of over 500 Austin area nonprofits! Amplify Austin Day, which debuted in 2013, is the city’s annual community-wide day of online giving. The 24-hour period provides an easy and fun way for the entire community to give together while helping hundreds of local nonprofits. Between both associations, more than 700 donors contributed to ensuring that Y programs are available to the community and no one ever gets turned away. Through efforts like these the Texas State Alliance of YMCAs has provided over $25 million in financial assistance to families in Texas.
