PictureKennedy Montgomery, the newly elected Youth Governor from the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA, at the Texas Youth & Government State Conference.
Founded in 1946, the YMCA Texas Youth & Government Program is part of a nationwide, youth led, civic engagement and academic enrichment program for high school and middle school students. It is an exciting hands-on experience in government that provides students an opportunity to participate in one of four areas: legislative, judicial, state affairs forum or media.  Students across the state of Texas participate in their local district conferences and culminate the experience at the three-day state conference in Austin and at the State Capitol.

Kennedy Montgomery has been a part of the YMCA Youth & Government program for two years. After relocating to Texas from Flint, Michigan, Kennedy made it his focus to continue his participation in the program and advocated to get the YMCA Youth & Government program at his new school. After recruiting ten students from his local high school, Kennedy began his campaign for Youth Governor in Texas. His platform – building a stronger YMCA Youth & Government presence in the state of Texas – won the nomination at the district conference. Then, at the YMCA Texas Youth & Government State Conference this year, Kennedy was elected as the new Texas Youth Governor and the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA’s first Youth Governor in the program.

The 2016 Youth & Government State Conference hosted over 1100 students and we invite you to review more conference results and read the Golden Gavel produced by the media students on the Texas Youth & Government Website.
