Fall symbolizes a season of many changes. There were many transformations happening in our local Ys. While our over 200 locations are still known for
fostering youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility; we recognize we wouldn’t be able to support our members without other organizations that believe in our initiatives and communities. Over the last few months, this has truly felt like the season of giving. We continue to partner with afterschool programs for our youth, community engagement launches for our senior community and collaborations in communities across the state with healthy living partners.

This season the Y was able to kick off the school year strong with Operation Backpack. This impacted the lives of 120,000 students in the greater Houston-area. While the start of the fall school year was underway, AT&T awarded the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas $65,000 for the Y Achievers program that empowers students to reach their highest potential. This allowed the program to extend its reach to not only high school students but middle school as well. Organizations continued to give to help create positive change for our Y communities. The Rebuild Texas Fund recognized the need to rebuild the Cossaboom Family YMCA in the east end of Houston and pledged a $1.2 million gift to the YMCA of Greater Houston in response to damages caused last year by Hurricane Harvey. We are thankful for your support and will continue to give back to our youth and communities.

As the year comes to a close, Ys  will continue to focus on ways to strengthen community. We appreciate your continued dedication to these priorities. We appreciate it because it's vital to our Y mission of fostering youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Sincerely,
Tony Shuman, Chair
Texas State Alliance of YMCAs
